Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MAE CAMPBELL Mae Campbell, widow of Bert Campbell, and cherished mother of Gaylene Morton and Ken Campbell, passed away on January 1, 2001 at Douglas Campbell Lodge, Portage la Prairie. Funeral Service will be held from the Miami United Church on Friday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Gilbert officiating. Interment of the cremains will follow in the family plot at Miami Cemetery. Mae was born in Carman, Manitoba on February 28, 1920 to William and Laura Stout. Her family lived in several towns in the province before settling in Miami in 1929. She attended Mountain Glen School and Miami School. Mae enjoyed her youth and had many stories to share about her family and friends. On August 22, 1941 Mae married Bert Campbell. Farm life was a new experience for her and she loved to tell us how she learned to help out at harvesting time by milking cows, feeding animals and driving farm machinery. She and Bert had two children, Gaylene and Ken. They continued to farm the Campbell home farm until 1956 when they moved into town. In the 1960s and 1970s Mae was employed at the Miami Post Office and at the Miami Sewing Fashions. She was always busy in her home as well. Mae knitted and crocheted, and sewed countless articles of clothing for her family throughout the years. She and Bert loved old time music, dancing, camping, and playing cards. After her husbands death in 1980 she moved to Portage la Prairie and became a resident in the Stephens Apartments. Mae played an active role in the Stephens Residents Club during her years there. She liked to play cards and bingo and also bowled with the Seniors League. Due to her failing health she moved to Douglas Campbell Lodge in June of 2000. Mae was predeceased by her husband, parents, brother Jack in 1974, and her only sister Gladys Alexander in September, 2000. She is survived by her son Ken; her daughter Gaylene (Archie) granddaughter Loralee; grandson Shane; and great-grandchildren, Toni, Tyson, and Shane. Also surviving are her brother Norman (Betty) Stout of Winnipeg; her brothers-in-law, Mac Alexander of Miami; Colin (Yvonne) Campbell; and Neil (Joey) Campbell of B.C.; her sister-in-law Winona Campbell of Miami; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A 1P6 or to a charity of their choice. Doyle Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements.
